As a Canadian I was expecting more of a sporting good store like Bass Pro. I should have done some research ahead of time because this was a department store on steroids. I was too busy walking around and seeing all the things to take pictures but I’m sure others have done a good job posting … I did drop a few (many) dollars on clothes and found sales that were awesome! The staff were friendly and helpful without hovering. The Ferris wheel which is a drawing card is down for maintenance so that is a consideration.

Scheels is my favorite one stop shop for apparel, sports equipment, camping, you name it. Scheels just offers more than places like Cabela's, REI, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Bass Pro. I only wish we had these back east. The employees are always checking to see if you need anything as well.

Be prepared to spend folks, the super friendly and helpful staff found everything I wanted and more. No pressure sales but they read me like a book 😁😁. Not as expensive as I anticipated either. Good cafe experience too.

First time visiting this location, very huge store!! Indoor Ferris wheel with a walkthrough fish tank at the entrance. 2 stories of shopping, our kids very much enjoyed the Toyland portion of the store and the giant animal display in the hunting section. Friendly staff made sure we could give what we were looking for.

I had never been into Scheels in Billings, even though it’s been there close to a decade. From Kalispell, it’s not exactly a casual stop. But walking in, the scale hits you immediately. The store is massive, well laid out, and built to impress. Front and center is the indoor Ferris wheel—hard to miss and not something you expect in a sporting goods store. The first floor leans heavily into clothing and general athletic gear. The variety is extensive—more options than you typically see in Montana retail. Upstairs is where it shifts into what I’d call serious territory. Hunting, fishing, and outdoor gear dominate. The ammunition selection alone—shotgun, rifle, handgun—is as deep as anything I’ve seen in the state. Backpacking, camping, wild game processing—every category is covered with real depth. What stood out was the atmosphere. Taxidermy mounts, full dioramas, and even a Super Cub suspended from the ceiling give it that old Cabela’s feel—before those stores lost some of their edge. If you live within a couple hours of Billings, this is a primary destination. We also spent time looking at paddleboards—hands-on comparison mattered. They didn’t have our exact model, but enough
